Ana Rodriguez Machado

Congratulations to Ana Rodriguez Machado, winner of the inaugural Aspiring Canadian Poets Contest. "An Afternoon in Central America" was selected as the winning poem by Toronto writer Catherine Graham, who describes Ana's poem as “concise, charged with menace, and with an arresting range...from the highly poetic 'The mountain danced with shades of cadmium and emerald' to the stinging last line — this five-line poem hooked me.”

Find out more about Ana and her award-winning poem in her interview with Allyson Latta here. Second and third prizes went to Nora Grove and Jill Talbot. The three winning poems can be read here.

The Aspiring Canadian Poets Contest was established to recognize and encourage unpublished Canadian poets. Winners will have their poems published on the award website and will also receive private online mentoring sessions with the contest judge.
